Herzog August Library Senior Fellowships

The Dr. phil. Fritz-Wiedemann Foundation has in the past funded several short-term fellowship programmes at the Herzog August Bibliothek which have been of importance for the development of the library's research profile. In order to strengthen research on Enlightement topics, a new Senior Fellows programme has been established, providing two fellowships annually in 2017 and 2018.

The programme is addressed to experienced senior scholars (full professor or comparable) both from Germany and abroad whose publications have made a significant contribution to current research in 18th-century studies and who would like to use the library's holdings for research on a new topic. In the spirit of the interests of the founder of the Wiedemann-Stiftung, a focus on political and intellectual history, cultural transfer, art history and the history of books and printing would be welcome.

Fellows are expected to take part in the intellectual exchange at the library and to participate in the informal gatherings  that promote, in particular to engaging with younger scholars and discussing their research topics. During their tenure fellows will be asked to give a public lecture geared to a general audience on some aspect of their research.

The 6-week fellowship consists of a single payment of 3.000 € and a travel subsidy.
