Justitia Amplificata Postdoctoral Fellowship in Political Theory/Political Philosophy

The Centre for Advanced Studies "Justitia Amplificata: Rethinking Justice _ Appplied and Global", funded by the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and located at the University of Frankfurt with a branch at the Free University of Berlin is seeking to appoint up to three post-doctoral fellows in political theory/political philosophy for the academic year 2019/2020. The Fellows will be hosted by Frankfurt University at its Institute for Advanced Studies in Bad Homburg (near Frankfurt) and will be part of the Frankfurt academic community. They are invited to spend a certain period of time at the Free University Berlin for a research stay, details to be arranged.

Candidates should have completed, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate in political theory/political philosophy, and should have proven potential to conduct and publish research at an international level. Candidates' research should fall within the Centre's areas of focus, namely global justice and applied theories of justice.

Conditions of Award

We offer a non-taxable grant of 2300€/month.

Additional benefits include a return trip from the fellows’ home town to Frankfurt for the fellow (not for his partner or his family); a mission allowance of 2,000€/year; a household allowance of 300€/month for accompanying partners (if the partner’s income is not higher than 1,250€/month) and a dependants allowance of 300€/month for each dependent child. Health insurance and accommodation expenses are not included in the package, although assistance in purchasing a suitable German health insurance will be provided.

Fellows will be provided with office space at the University’s Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at Bad Homburg (Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften). Fellows who wish to live at the Institute will be offered the opportunity to rent one of the Institute’s flats (for more information, see: Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften). Fellows who wish to live in Frankfurt will receive some assistance in finding a suitable accommodation.

Fellows will be expected to take an active part in the Centre’s activities and workshops, and to present their ongoing research to the members of the Centre in its fortnightly research seminar. If budget and time allow it, fellows might have the opportunity to actively cooperate in some of the Centre’s research activities, including the organization of workshops and conferences.

Fellows are expected to reside in Frankfurt (or Bad Homburg) during term time (mid October to mid February – with a 2 to 3 weeks Christmas break - and mid April to mid July)
