Fundación Bancaria "La Caixa" (FBLC)

The Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, “la Caixa”, is the result of the transformation of Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, “la Caixa” into “la Caixa” Banking Foundation, in compliance with the Savings Banks and Banking Foundations Law, of 27 December 2013.

“la Caixa” was created in 1990 from the merger between Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Cataluña y Baleares, founded in 1904, and Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Barcelona, founded in 1844. From the start, the main activity of “la Caixa” was its dedication to family savings, and offering all its clients a pension insurance when this kind of benefit was not yet available in Spain.

Thus, from the beginning ”la Caixa” was characterized by a solid social commitment and a willingness to work for the common interest, both through their financial activities and through its Welfare Projects, which funds and maintains activities of social, educational, cultural and scientific nature.

This vocation for service has been maintained throughout the years, and is strengthened by the creation of the Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, ”la Caixa”.

The ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation directly manages the Welfare Projects, which has always defined ”la Caixa”, and also groups all the shareholding from ”la Caixa” Group in CriteriaCaixa in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, services and real estate, and in CaixaBank, the leading financial group in the Spanish retail banking market.

The ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation maintains, strengthens and develops the fundamental areas of action for ”la Caixa” since it was founded: the financial area, the business area and the social area, the raison d'être.

For the tenth consecutive year investment has totalled 500 million euros in Welfare Projects, rising in 2017 to 510 million. This budget is devoted to building a better, fairer society with more opportunities for everyone.
