Call illustration

The postdoctoral fellowship, open to early career scholars, is to be awarded for twelve months’ residence, study, and research at Harvard Business School.

The fellowship has two purposes. The first is to enable scholars who have already demonstrated an engagement with business history broadly defined to deepen their knowledge of teaching pedagogy and research methods in the discipline. The fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to course development in MBA and doctoral courses in business history. They will also take part in a weekly research seminar in the fall of each year in which leading scholars from around the world present their work. The second purpose is to enable an early career scholar to develop their work in the discipline. The fellow is encouraged to submit an article to Business History Review during the fellowship year. They might also organize a research conference on a subject related to their research. A research budget will be provided for the fellow.

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD by the time of the start of the fellowship. They should submit a CV, an undergraduate transcript and a graduate-school record, thesis abstract, and writing sample (such as an article or a book chapter). Applicants should also state the topics, objectives, and design for the specific research to be undertaken during the fellowship. Finally, applicants should indicate the names of three people who will write references on their behalf. Letters of reference can be submitted online through interfolio or directly from the recommender by email to bhi@hbs.edu with the applicant’s name in the subject line. It is the responsibility of the applicant to solicit these letters. The fellowship will be decided and all applicants notified by mid-January. The Fellowship will begin July 1, 2024. Applications must be submitted online no later than November 1, 2023.

Harvard Business School is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, or any other characteristic protected by law.
