UT Sydney Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

The Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme develops research, teaching and learning, management and communication skills to shape the next generation of leading academics at UTS. This year, we're pleased to announce the launch of the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Indigenous Research Fellowships as part of the scheme.

UTS Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (CPDRF) are awarded to outstanding early career researchers who wish to develop their research, teaching and learning, management and communication skills to become the next generation of leading academics at UTS.

In 2019, the scheme includes the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Indigenous Research Fellowship (CPDIRF), aimed at attracting and retaining outstanding Indigenous early career researchers.

Both the CPDRF and CPDIRF offer:

  • A four-year combination research and teaching appointment
  • Academic Salary Level B, Step 2 ($99,924 base salary as of 1 May 2017) plus 17 per cent employer-provided superannuation contribution
  • Research project funding of up to A$50,000

All fellows will be expected to engage in high quality research projects, produce high quality outputs, and contribute to existing and emerging teaching and learning areas relevant to UTS.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible, candidates must meet certain requirements for the scheme.

Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Candidates will have been awarded a research doctoral degree (equivalent to an Australian PhD degree) within the last five years. Research doctoral degree candidates whose thesis is under examination at the closing date, and research doctoral degree candidates who will submit their PhD thesis by 30 June 2018 may also apply. International candidates are welcome to apply.

Candidates must nominate and consult closely with one UTS supervisor in developing an EOI.

The fellowships are highly competitive. To be short-listed, candidates must have an exceptional track record relative to opportunity as well as the commitment and potential to enhance the research capacity and culture of UTS.

Chancellor's Postdoctoral Indigenous Research Fellowships

Candidates applying for a CPDIRF must be an Australian Aboriginal Person and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Candidates will have been awarded a research doctoral degree (equivalent to an Australian PhD degree) within the last five years. Research doctoral degree candidates whose thesis is under examination at the closing date, and research doctoral degree candidates who will submit their PhD thesis by 30 June 2018 may also apply. International candidates are welcome to apply.

Candidates must nominate and consult closely with one UTS supervisor in developing an EOI.

The fellowships are highly competitive. To be short-listed, candidates must have an exceptional track record relative to opportunity as well as the commitment and potential to enhance the research capacity and culture of UTS.

UTS Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research will assess applicants’ eligibility against criteria outlined in the guidelines.

EOI registration for both the Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and Chancellor's Postdoctoral Indigenous Research Fellowship schemes is now open.

Important Dates

  • EOI Registration – Closing Friday 27 April 2018, 5pm AEST
  • EOI Submission – Closing Wednesday 2 May 2018, 5pm AEST
  • Prior to EOI registration, you are strongly advised to contact the relevant UTS faculty (or equivalent) and enquire about current research priorities to ensure there is support for your application

The scheme involves a three-stage application process:

  • Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • Invited full application
  • Interview

Only one application per individual will be accepted. You must nominate only one supervisor

A valid EOI application requires an eligible online registration, followed by the electronic submission of the complete EOI. All candidates must have successfully registered before being able to submit their EOI application.

You will need to refer to the following documents in order to submit an EOI for either CPDRF or CPDIRF.

To submit an EOI, you must register online by Friday 27 April.

Important notes

  • Only successfully registered and eligible candidates will receive further EOI submission instructions
  • Please refer to the EOI instructions before registration and submission of an EOI application
  • EOI registrations and applications without naming a supervisor, or naming a supervisor without their consent, will be deemed ineligible for assessment
  • Application documents submitted without prior online registration (e.g. by email) will not be accepted
  • All EOI submissions are final, and late applications will not be considered further

If your EOI is shortlisted, you will be invited to submit a full application. The relevant documents and instructions for the second stage will be forwarded to you.
