The Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art is envisioned to be the world's leading center for scholarship on modern art, with a focus on Cubism. It is intended to be a catalyst for the understanding and appreciation of modern art and Cubism in particular, including its origins and influence. Through public lectures, exhibitions, publications, a sophisticated web presence, and a residency for Fellows and Research Scholars, the Center will make important contributions to the understanding of early twentieth-century art.

The Center takes full advantage of its location within The Metropolitan Museum of Art and is unique in its ability to offer object-based study using a collection that spans 5,000 years of world history. Additionally, the Museum's renowned conservation facilities and staff provide unparalleled opportunities for examination and analysis of the Metropolitan's modern art collection.
