The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university in Hong Kong. Founded in 1911, its origins trace back to the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, which was founded in 1887. It is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong.

As of 2019, HKU ranks second in Asia by QS and fourth by THE, and around top 25 internationally. It has been commonly regarded as one of the most internationalized universities in the world. It is also regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the Asian-Pacific area. Today, HKU has ten academic faculties with English as the main language of instruction. HKU also ranks highly in the sciences, dentistry, biomedicine, education, humanities, law, economics, business administration, linguistics, political science, and the social sciences.
