The Association for the European Biennale of local history in partnership with the Istituto storico italiano per l’étà moderna e contemporanea welcomes applications for the 2023 Étienne Baluze Prize for European Local History. A prize of €2,000 will reward a first research work devoted to the history of food in Europe (production, distribution, consumption) between the 14th and 21st centuries.

This could be an unpublished doctoral thesis defended since January 2020, or a first research book published since January 2020. Based on the study of a local situation, the work should provide important elements of knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in the constitution of the European area, including its most current configurations.

Languages accepted are English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Candidates must submit an electronic summary of their work (3 pages + table of contents) by 31 July 2023 to prixbaluze@gmail.com

Shortlisted candidates (results will be communicated at the beginning of September 2023) must then send a complete copy (PDF version) of their work before 15 September 2023.
