Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Grand Prize

The Académie des sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan award the Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Grand Prize every year to a team of French and Taiwanese researchers for their contribution to scientific research of interest to both parties. The laureates are expected to foster scientific exchange between the two parties, for example, by organizing conferences and symposia. The amount of the Prize is 38,200 €, to be shared equally between the laureates.

The 2018 call will be opened to all research fields.

Terms and conditions

Applications are open to all French and Taiwanese researchers but priority will be given to researchers involved in international collaborations between the two parties.

Deadline: Applications must be sent by June 29th, 2018 in two copies in PDF format, one submitted by the French applicant to the Académie des sciences, and the other submitted by the Taiwanese applicant to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Application form

Two to four recommendation letters : Please arrange two to four referees to send their recommendation letters to both the Académie des sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology by June 29th, 2018. Of the two obligatory referees, one must be an academician of the Académie des sciences, whilst the other must be an academician of the Academia Sinica. The optional referees must be either an academician of the Académie des sciences or an academician of the Academia Sinica, or a former laureate of the Prize (up to two optional referees will be accepted and reviewed).

Photos : Please send one passport photo of each applicant to both the Académie des sciences, and the Ministry of Science and Technology via email.

The Prize will be awarded during the « Grand Prix » ceremony of the Académie des sciences under the dome of the Institut de France on November 20th 2018. The next day, the laureates will be invited to give a speech on a ceremony co-organized by the Académie des sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Internal rules of committee

Committee Members

• for the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)

  • the Minister of MOST or his delegate
  • a Deputy Minister of MOST (in charge of academic affairs)
  • at least three members of Academia Sinica

• for the Académie des sciences

  • the President of the Académie des sciences or his/her delegate
  • the two Permanent Secretaries of the Académie des sciences or their delegates
  • at least two members of the Académie des sciences

Venue and date of Committee meeting

The Committee of 2018 Prize will meet on September 13th 2018 in Taipei. The meeting can be organized by the presence of at least three members of the Taiwanese representatives and three members belonging to the Académie des sciences.

Deliberation

The President of the Committee in Taipei is the Head of the Taiwanese representatives, and in Paris is the Head of the French representatives. The quorum is three members for each side; each member can designate a proxy. The result is set by a two-thirds majority of the attending or delegate members.

Results will be announced on September 26th 2018.
