Research Associate / Postdoc / Doctoral student (m/f/d) in the field of South-Eastern European History

In accordance with § 2 WissZeitVG and § 72 HessHG, the position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis at the Chair of South-Eastern European History, Department of History at the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies with the opportunity for own academic qualification. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).

As long as the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term contract is not exceeded, you will be employed for an initial period of 3 years. An extension for up to another 2 years (or 3 years if a doctorate has been completed at the time of employment) is possible under the above-mentioned condition.

Your tasks at a glance

  • Opportunity for own academic and didactic qualification, activities in research and teaching according to § 72 HessHG in the field of South-Eastern European History
  • Taking on teaching duties according to the teaching obligation ordinance of the state of Hessen, the teaching load is one undergraduate course per semester
  • Participation in the public activities of the chair of South-Eastern European Studies

Your qualifications and competences

  • Completed Master‘s or equivalent university degree in History, Balkan, Mediterranean or Ottoman History or any related discipline including Anthropology, Ethnology, Cultural Studies
  • Completed doctoral degree is desirable
  • Knowledge of at least one South-Eastern European language, knowledge of Ottoman is very welcomed
  • Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of research and training related to the History of South-Eastern European/Balkan History and have an interest in transdisciplinary and cross-epochal research questions 
  • Candidates who can contribute in the field of digital humanities and and public history are particularly encouraged to apply
  • A basic knowledge of German at the level of B2 is required and should be extended to C1 level at least one year after your appointment.
