NUFFIELD POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN ECONOMICS

Fellowships are full-time and tenable for a fixed term of one to three years from September 2024 or as soon as possible after that.

The Department of Economics, in partnership with Nuffield College, are offering full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellowships openings for candidates who hold a PhD in a relevant field or are close to completion of a doctoral degree, starting from September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The fellowships offer early career researchers the opportunity to develop their research portfolio within one of the world’s leading Economics departments and strengthen their future position in the academic job market.

The postholder is required to perform the following duties to the satisfaction of the Head of Department: (i) to engage in research of a quality commensurate with publication in leading international economics journals; (ii) to develop and manage their own programme of independent research; (iii) to present their research at international conferences and research workshops; (iv) to play a full role in the intellectual life  of the department (both during term-time and vacations) including working collaboratively with academic colleagues in areas of shared research interest, and taking part in department seminars and workshops; (v) to provide up to 60 units of graduate or undergraduate teaching per annum (60 units is equivalent to 20 hours of lectures or 30 hours of TA-format class teaching) within the areas covered by the Department of Economics, as requested by the Head of Department; (vi) to co-operate in the administration of teaching and research; (vii) to examine as required by the appropriate committee.

The postholder will undertake further duties for Nuffield College including (i) participating in the intellectual life of the College by attending, and where possible by organising, seminars, workshops, conferences, and other academic events; (ii) acting as mentors for graduate students, where appropriate; and (iii) representing the College’s body of postdoctoral research fellows on one of the College’s committees and taking on College officerships, where appropriate.

You will hold a PhD or be close to completing a doctoral degree, in a relevant subject. You will have the ability to present research findings effectively, to innovate and work effectively with colleagues and play a part in developing the department’s research programme, as well being able to teach high-achieving graduate students. Additionally, you will possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be willing to contribute more generally to the intellectual life of the Department and the College.

Consideration will be given to any field of specialisation.

Online interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place in early December 2023. Final interviews are scheduled to be held in Oxford between January and February 2024. Candidates invited for the final interview will be required to present a research seminar. Moreover, a series of informal meetings with department members will be organized.
