Post-Doctoral Researcher in Mental Health Ethics and Co-Design in the Department of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital

We are looking to appoint a Researcher in the Ethics of Global Psychiatry based within the Neuroscience, Ethics and Society (NEUROSEC) Team in the Department of Psychiatry and the Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities.  Led by Professor Ilina Singh, the NEUROSEC Team has an international reputation for its work in neuroscience and psychiatric ethics and is uniquely situated within Oxford Psychiatry and Neuroscience, building collaborative research relationships with scientists and clinicians whilst maintaining a critical perspective and a portfolio of independent research projects.

The post is for a fixed-term (funded for 12 months in the first instance) and is full time.

You will support a programme of research on global mental health ethics (https://neurogene.com), initiating papers and supporting the analyses and writing up of empirical projects focused on psychological, social and ethical dimensions of psychiatric interventions in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa. You will be able to contribute qualitative and quantitative expertise, with strengths in quantitative methods. You will also lead us in progressing our strategies for co-design and co-production with young people, as part of our  commitment to inclusive and equitable research in the Team, WEH and the University.

Working independently and part of a team you will also be expected to work with stakeholder communities across Oxford and support and/or lead website management and social media communications.  You will also develop and lead a strategy of EDI commitments and activities within the team.

You will have, or be close to the completion of a PhD or relevant degree in empirical bioethics, psychology, or a related empirical social science discipline and will demonstrate a high level of specialist knowledge in the social science or ethics of neuroscience, psychiatry and/or mental health.  You will have experience of working as part of a national / international, multidisciplinary research group, in a relevant context.  You will be able to demonstrate exceptional writing and communication skills. An understanding of neurodevelopmental dimensions of intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder would be desirable.
