Since 1977, the Stiftung Arp e.V. has overseen a great part of the artistic estates of the Franco-German sculptor Hans Arp and his first wife, the Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp. In addition, the foundation manages the copyright of both artists'. Its central purpose is to oversee the artists’ estates and to make their works accessible to the public. The Stiftung Arp e.V. holds the largest collection of work by Hans Arp and also owns the copyright to his artistic oeuvre.

The foundation’s most important mission is to make the work of Arp and Taeuber-Arp accessible to a wide international audience through the support of exhibitions, loans and publications. The support of academic research on the work of Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp is one of its most important activities. In 2010, the Stiftung Arp e.V. opened its archive in order to facilitate research on Hans Arp’s oeuvre. The archive and collection have been accessible by appointment since December 2013 at the foundation’s new branch in Berlin. Beginning in fall 2014, the Stiftung Arp e.V. awards research fellowships to both junior as well as senior academics and curators whose work engages with the art of Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp. An additional project is the successive cataloging of Hans Arp’s oeuvre in the form of an openly accessible online-database.
