Institute for Ethics in AI Visiting Fellowship

Call image

The Institute for Ethics in AI at the University of Oxford proposes to elect three Visiting Fellows for the academic year 2024-25. The Visiting Fellowship is intended to offer an established scholar or practitioner in an AI-related field the opportunity to engage in a project related to the ethics of Artificial Intelligence. The length of tenure of the fellowship is one academic term (three months). Applications are encouraged from candidates from all countries and all universities. Applications are particularly encouraged from under-represented groups within their respective disciplines.

In making elections, the Institute will generally give preference to individuals who would particularly benefit from the opportunity to spend time in Oxford to pursue their proposed research project, and would find it difficult to do so without the support of a Visiting Fellowship.

Visiting Fellows will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Institute and the University through, for example, lectures, seminars, and workshops. They are expected to reside in Oxford throughout the whole term, attend Institute events, give a presentation of their research, and engage intellectually with colleagues in the Institute and the wider university.

Benefits

  • Up to nine weeks of free accommodation in Oxford
  • Economy airfare for the individual fellow
  • Networking allowance
  • Engagement with Institute faculty and their academic network
  • Attendance at the Institute's regular events and seminars
  • Access to the Institute's hot-desk workspace
  • Oxford University email address
  • Access to the Philosophy and Theology Faculties Library
  • Registration with the University's Bodleian Library

It is anticipated that the Institute will proceed to elections in December 2023, and that the successful applicant will take up their Fellowship during one of the three terms during the academic year (2024-25).

Application deadline is noon (UK time) on Monday, 4 December 2023.
