Hilde Robinsohn-Guest Fellowship European-Jewish Studies

Since its 30th founding anniversary, the Moses Mendelssohn Center annually awards Guest Fellowships for European-Jewish studies for stays of up to four months. The fellowship program is dedicated to the memory of Hildegard Robinsohn (1907–1996), a Jewish lawyer and advocate in restitution trials. She was married to Saul B. Robinsohn, one of the founding directors of the Max Planck Institute for Educational Research in Berlin, whose private library is located in the MMZ library. The Moses Mendelssohn Center is an interdisciplinary research center of European-Jewish studies in Potsdam and part of the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg. Through its director, Prof. Dr. Miriam Rürup, it belongs to the board of directors of the ZJS.

Applicants must be at least postdoctoral fellows working on a project in one of the fields related to research fields at the MMZ, such as Israel Studies, modern and contemporary Jewish history, Jewish and German-German history (with a particular focus on GDR history), the history of the German-Jewish Diaspora, Digital Jewish History, Film History – whether from a historical, cultural studies, literary studies, or sociological perspective. A good command of both English and German is a precondition.

Visiting scholars are expected to actively participate in the academic exchange at the Moses Mendelssohn Center. A public guest lecture is expected during the stay as well as an internal presentation about the ongoing research in the „internal colloquium“ of the MMZ. The MMZ provides access to one of the largest directly accessible reference libraries on European-Jewish history in Germany.

3,000.00 euros per month for PostDocs (up to five years after completion of the PhD) and 4,000.00 euros per month for established researchers. An additional allowance for travel and accommodation expenses is also possible.

Interested applicants should submit an informative CV including previous publications (maximum six pages), a description of the project to be worked on during the stay at the MMZ (maximum three pages) together with a suggested residence period, a letter of interest explaining the motivation for a stay at the MMZ.
